Domex Toilet movement

In our country INDIA, the millions of people defecate in the open due to the non availability of the proper toilets. Due to the lack of sanitation facilities, poor people are left with no choice except defecating on the roads or in the garbage area or near railway tracks or behind the bushes and so on. Some people even use plastic bags for the toilet matters. Due to this, the hygiene level is zero and the lack of hygiene in return increases the chance of diseases and the health problems. Not only this issue is being faced in the villages, but also, in the major cities like Mumbai.
The impact of such issue is seen more on Women and girls. In the villages, they have to walk and go  far for defecating. Defecating behind the bushes increases the chance of animal attacks like snake bites. Also, women need privacy during their menstruation period, which is not possible due to the lack of toilets or latrines availability. This not only has the bad impact on  their  health, but also, affects their dignity. Also, due to the lack of privacy for women, they face sexual violence problems too. I have even read that, a few women try to avoid their meals per day so that the need to go to toilet reduces. This in the future will not only affect their health, but also would bring various health risks.

Now, there is one company name HUL that runs the Domex Toilet Academy programme. They have initiated this programme with a motive to eradicate or at least reduce the problem of sanitation.
Domex is a HUL’s flagship sanitation brand, which currently runs the Domex Toilet Academy (DTA) programme. The Domex Toilet Academy was launched on 19th November 2013. It aims to become a sustainable and long-term solution to provide sanitation that benefits the local community and helps stimulate the local economy. The Toilet Academy makes toilets accessible and affordable, while promoting the benefits of clean toilets & good hygiene. They have achieved in bringing the change in a few villages of Maharashtra and Odisha.
